Albertas Šekštelo

"I am thrilled to become the VIAC ambassador. I see the need for a neutral arbitration forum in the CEE region. VIAC is a strong and competitive arbitration institution and is the perfect match for such a purpose. Not only because of VIAC’s innovative approach (e.g., its own portal for online case management) but also because of its location in a wonderful Vienna and the learned professionals surrounding and running the institution. I am sure, the CAN initiative will bring even more new initiatives and arbitration events promoting VIAC. VIAC CAN – and so we CAN!"

Albertas specializes in dispute resolution, especially involving national and international commercial and investment arbitration. Albertas has handled or participated in over thirty arbitrations convened under ICC, SCC, VKAT, PCA, LCIA, UNCITRAL (ad hoc arbitration), GAFTA, MKAC, BelCCI, or VIAC rules, including representing the Republic of Lithuania in a dispute with the Government of the Kaliningrad Region, as well as in the Gazprom cases heard both in the Court of Justice of the European Union and in PCA, ICC, and SCC arbitration courts. Albertas also often sits as a solo, presiding, or co-arbitrator in domestic and ad hoc arbitrations.

Albertas also works on complex domestic and cross-border litigation cases. He is ranked in Band 4 in dispute resolution by Chambers and Partners Europe. As Chambers and Partners state, he is instructed to assist clients with both litigation and arbitration mandates. "He is a very efficient negotiator," a client says. Another adds: "He's able to meet very demanding deadlines at the same time as keeping the deep approach to the matter."

He regularly speaks at conferences in Lithuania and abroad and contributes articles on arbitration and civil procedure issues to various publications.

Albertas is a Lecturer at the Law Faculty at Vilnius University on business transactions, civil law, and the law of civil procedure.
